Srinagar, Apr 13: Ahead of Parliamentary Elections, Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) NitinAgrawal along with senior officials reviewed security situation and operational preparedness of forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir frontier.
A BSF official said that DG BSF was accompanied YogeshBahadurKhurania, IPS, SDG BSF (Western Command) Chandigarh visited ( April 11-12 ) Kashmir Frontier to review the security situation and operational preparedness of the force along the LC as well as for the GPE- 2024.
He said during the visit he held discussions with the senior BSF official at Frontier Headquarters Humhama.
DG also visited high altitude forward locations along the LoC and stressed on further strengthening the anti-infiltration grid on the LC in close cooperation with the Army.
The visit comes day after BSF, Army and Police busted a terrorist hideout and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Gungbugh (Sogam) Forests of north Kashmir’ Kupwara district.
Earlier Inspector General Border Security Force (Kashmir Frontier) Ashok Yadav said chances of infiltration along the borders increase when snow starts meting especially during important events such as elections. Security forces are on alert and capable enough to foil any infiltration bid along LoC in the region.
“Both BSF and Army are deployed along the LoC and security forces are always on alert and vigilant to thwart any attempts across the border, particularly during elections.”
He said they (BSF) are patrolling every day to keep watch. The risk of infiltration goes up during big events like elections. Also, when the snow melts, it opens up routes for infiltration.
“We have put plans in place to dominate those areas and made vulnerability maps and the forces will conduct area domination exercises according to that. SF’s are capable of foiling any such attempts,” IG BSF said.
IG BSG Yadav said that around 65 companies of BSF are stationed across North, South, and Central Kashmir regions, working alongside Jammu and Kashmir Police to strengthen security. Our commitment us to facilitate smooth elections, stating they will take all necessary measures, he added.
