Srinagar, April 04: The city of Srinagar on Thursday welcomed a fleet of 25 new smart city buses, introduced by the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).
A trial run was also conducted in the city, these freshly arrived buses showcased their cutting-edge features, marking a major move towards modernizing the city’s transportation infrastructure.
Anuj Malhotra, the General Manager of Planning & Urban Development at Smart City Srinagar, expressed enthusiasm about the imminent arrival of the state-of-the-art buses, slated to commence operations in the coming days.
Highlighting their advancements, Malhotra revealed that these buses boast a length of over 12 meters, representing a notable upgrade from the previously acquired 9-meter buses. The new buses offer a seating capacity of 35 passengers, coupled with additional standing room, ensuring enhanced comfort and convenience for commuters.
“These buses mark a major upgrade, providing more spacious seating and high back seats,” remarked Malhotra, underlining the emphasis on passenger comfort in the design of the new fleet.
With the addition of these 25 buses, the total count of smart city buses in Srinagar has reached 100, including the previously operational 75 buses, signaling a considerable expansion in the city’s public transportation network.
The inspection and trial run of the smart city buses were conducted under the supervision of officials, including RTO Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, and Anuj Malhotra. The meticulous assessment underscores the commitment of authorities to ensuring the safety and efficiency of the transportation system.
The introduction of these e-buses has been met with widespread approval from the residents of Srinagar, who anticipate significant relief from transportation challenges. Praising the government’s initiative, locals expressed optimism about the positive impact of the expanded fleet on their daily commute, signaling a brighter future for urban mobility in Srinagar.
