Srinagar, Oct 16: Director Tourism Kashmir FazlulHaseeb and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir Singh Sunday flagged off “Kashmir Premier Mountain Biking Race” organised by MTB Kashmir in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District.
As per the officials a total of 100 cyclists from different states across India, including J&K, Haryana, Delhi and Bihar participated in 45 KM’s off road cycle race which started from Madr-i-Meharbaan Stadium Ganderbal and culminated at Mammer, Sonamarg.
Director Tourism FazlulHaseeb was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism FazlulHaseeb said Kashmir has tremendous potential for adventure tourism and that has been one of the main thrust areas, especially keeping in view the fact that sustainable and eco-tourism need to be prioritised and encouraged.
Waheed Ahmad got first position, Dr Akbar Khan got second and Bazil Rather got third position in the “Men’s Elite” category.
Mohammad Amin Reshi got first position, Irfan Mir second and SajadYousuf secured third position in the “Masters Solo” category.
Adnan Bashir stood first, Parveez Ahmad second and Arsalan secured third position in the “Youth Boys” category.
Faisal Shafi and Tahir Shameem got first position, Zulfikar and Ikhlaq second and MushtaqBhat and Abdul Shakoor secured third position, respectively in the “Team of Two” category.
At the concluding ceremony, Director Tourism Kashmir distributed medals, certificates and cash prizes among participants and position holders at the cafeteria in Mammer.
Rupees five thousand Rupees in cash was awarded to the first position holder, three thousand for second while two thousand for third in all categories with mementos and certificates were given away to winners and participants.
