Srinagar, Oct 29: The Model Government Degree College Chrarisharief on Saturday organized two day national conference on the theme “Role of Science, Technology, Executive and Public in Environmental Conservation and Waste Management”.
The main aim of the conference was to highlight and discuss the importance of three aspects that are required for Environmental Conservation and Waste Management.
These three aspects include Meaningful Public Awareness, Meaningful Public participation and Responsible Governance besides the use of science and technology.
In the conference, various invited speakers highlighted and discussed about challenges that become impediment in environmental conservation and waste management. The speaker’s also highlighted the possible ways to deal with these challenges.
Khursheed Ahmad Ganai (retired IAS) was the Chief Guest of the event.
In his presentation, Ganai impressed up on the role of Public and Government in Environmental Conservation and Waste Management besides judicious use of Science and Technology.
Shrigopal Jagtap, Director Shirsti Waste Management Service, Pvt. Ltd. Indore, the Guest of Honor of the event presented his talk on Indore Model of waste Management.
He said, it is the public and the Government who together can deal with the challenges of waste management provide both the parties work not for the benefit of the self but for the benefit of the present and future generations.
Nazir Ahmad Khan DDC Chairperson Budgam was also present in the conference, he appreciated the work done by Indore city Municipality Corporation in solid waste management and stressed upon adopting the same model initially in few clusters of Budgam district.
Other speakers of the conference included Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat Social activist and Columnist, Advocate Nadeem Qadri (Environmental Lawyer J&K High Court), Dr. Arshid Jehangir University of Kashmir, Nazar Ul Islam, Chairman Life School Chrarisharief.
The organizing secretary of the Conference Dr. Ashraf Zainabi also highlighted the importance the theme of the conference and how together Science, Technology, Executive and Public can make a sea change in Environmental Conservation and Waste Management.
The college administration and the organizing team of the conference resolved to work with the civil society and municipal committee of Chararisharief town in realizing the clean-green Chararisharief (Shehar-i-Alamdar). The two days conference was sponsored by JK Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of J&K UT.
