Srinagar, Dec 08: Srinagar, Dec 08: In the wake of recent orders issued by the J&K administration to curb misuse of social media platforms, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order, Vijay Kumar urged district heads to remain vigilant and implement preventive measures under law those who indulge in mischief, misinformation and misuse of social media.
During a joint meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, he said there is need for District Magistrates to closely monitor the situation and take legal actions against those involved in spreading mischief, misinformation, and misusing social media.
ADGP L&O Kumar chaired a joint meeting of all the DMs & SSsP of Kashmir division for the first time at PCR Kashmir. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, IGP Kashmir, DD IB, DIsG of all the ranges of Kashmir, DIG CID and SSP PCR Kashmir also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, officers briefed the ADGP on the current law and order and security scenario, sharing field-generated inputs regarding anticipated challenges in light of upcoming events.
“All District heads were urged to keep a watchful eye on the situation and take necessary preventive and punitive actions against individuals engaging in mischief, misinformation, and social media misuse,” ADGP Kumar said.
The meeting also involved discussions on preventing incidents, with a directive to anticipate various scenarios and plan effective responses accordingly.
Both ADGP Kumar and Div Com Kashmir instructed all DMs and SSPs to conduct meetings with field officers and other stakeholders. They were sensitized about the importance of a calibrated response in case of any untoward incidents arising from the prevailing situation.
The collective effort aims to curb social media misuse and ensure the maintenance of peace and harmony in the region, he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir administration issued an order under Section 144 Cr.PC 1973, aimed at curbing the misuse of social media networking platforms  in the region.
The order prohibits the ‘posting,’ ‘uploading,’ or propagation of incendiary messages and propaganda related to terrorist and separatist outfits. It highlights concerns that certain individuals or groups are exploiting social media platforms to glorify terrorist actions, intimidate the public, and propagate false narratives.
The order specifically targets activities that incite violence, spread disaffection and hatred, and promote terrorist ideologies, potentially disturbing public order and tranquillity.
