Srinagar, 03 Nov: A Darul Uloom (Islamic seminary) and a mosque were damaged in a massive fire in the HMT Zainakote area of Srinagar outskirts on Thursday evening, the cause of which is being investigated, officials said.
As per the locals in the area the fire erupted from the Mosque tomb and quickly spread to the adjacent Darul Uloom (Islamic seminary), forcing them to quickly evacuate the students from the seminary.
Divisional Officer of Fire and Emergency Department Tasaduq Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that soon after receiving the call they headed towards the spot and with the help of traffic Police personnel they were able to reach early and controlled the fire and prevented it’s further spread in the area.
“Soon after receiving the emergency call of the fire incident, we rushed towards the spot and upon reaching the fire extinguishing operation was started in which locals also extended their help in laying up the lines and our men doused the flames and prevented the further spread of the fire. The local youth of the area exhibited good discipline and did not make any unnecessary interference during the fire dousing operation”, he said.
He said the top floor of the Mosque and Darul Uloom got damaged in the early fire but was brought under control with the help of more than six fire tenders. However, it was the peak time of traffic on roads that time but with the help of traffic police personnel deployed on roads, they ensured quick passage to our vehicles.
Meanwhile, a Police Officer present on the spot on being asked about any report regarding any injury to anyone in the fire incident and the cause of the fire, told Rising Kashmir that the investigations into the fire incident have been pressed in, however, said the preliminary reports suggest the fire incident has happened due to the short circuit but will be clear once the investigation completes.
