Baramulla, Jan 25: A massive snow avalanche near the Drang area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has blocked water flow to dozens of villages, officials said.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Tangmarg Mohammad Yousuf Khan told Rising Kashmir that a snow avalanche hit in the upper reaches of the Drang area which later on blocked the water flow to the filtration plant.
The water flow has been blocked to the Hariwatnoo Kilwara water filtration plant which serves drinking water to several villages in the area, he said.
“The areas that are receiving drinking water supply from the filtration plant are Tangmarg, Maheen, Treran, Shajimarg Qazi Compora, Zirin, Warpora, Shalgam, Hajibal and Waniloo and Hariwatnoo Kilwara,” the official said.
EXEN Jal Shakti Tangmarg appealed to the locals to use drinking water judiciously as the flow from the backend has been reduced to a great extent.
“We will try our level best to restore the water supply as soon as possible if weather permits. However, drinking water tankers will be utilised in the affected areas,” he further said.
