Kulgam, Jan 12: For the first time, laparoscopy Pyeloplasty was performed successfully in the Kulgam District Hospital (DH) on a middle aged female patient who was later on discharged in a stable condition.

As per the doctors at DH Kulgam, the patient was suffering from pelvic ureteric junction obstruction (PUJ Obstruction) and was prescribed Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty.

The surgery was however performed for the first time at DH Kulgam under the supervision of the Medical Superintendent.

Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty is a minimally invasive method for performing reconstructive surgery on a constriction or scarring where the ureter (the tube that empties urine from the kidney to the bladder) joins to the kidney.

According to official, middle aged female patient during the evaluation was diagnosed with pelvic ureteric junction obstruction which causes slow transit of urine from renal pelvis to the ureter.

“The patient underwent laparoscopic left Pyeloplasty which was performed successfully on January 7, an official said, adding the patient was discharged on Wednesday in good health.

Dr Afsana Banoo, Medical Superintendent, DH Kulgam said, the procedure was conducted by a team of doctors led by Urologist Dr. Manzoor Ah Dar and Laparoscopic surgeon Dr Mubarak Ah Shan; anaesthetist Dr Jahangir Kawoosa and Dr Naseer.

The team included Ms. Rifat, an anaesthesia technician, and Mr. Imtiyaz, an operations technician (OT).

Medical Superintendent DH Kulgam provided logistics support for the medical team.

She also complimented the team on the success of laparoscopic Pyeloplasty surgery.

Meanwhile, DHS Kashmir has also congratulated and complimented the doctors for this procedure; with the hope that more and more such high-end procedures will be undertaken for the ease of common people.
