Qazigund, Dec 30: A woman tourist died while seven others received injuries after a vehicle met with an accident at Zig Post in the Qazigund area of Anantnag district on Friday.
An official said, a vehicle on the way to Srinagar skidded off road and fell into a deep gorge at Zig Post on Srinagar Jammu National Highway resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to several others.
“All the injured were shifted to Emergency Hospital (EH) Qazigund and Verinag hospital for treatment,” he said.
Medical Superintendent EH Qazigund said, the woman tourist identified as Sheeba Tarique (32) from Lucknow UP was brought dead and five others were shifted to Anantnag Hospital.
BMO Verinag told Rising Kashmir that they received two injured tourists including a minor boy.
“Among the injured persons were Nazia Jan (50) and Zubair Ahmed (11), both residents of Lucknow UP who were brought to PHC Verinag and have been referred to DH Anantnag after being given first aid. They had multiple injuries,” he said.
Notably, the rescue operation was immediately launched by locals, including women, paramilitary forces and others to take the injured to the hospital. The rescue operation was a little difficult as the snow had already accumulated and the vehicle had plunged into a deep gorge.
