Srinagar, Dec 17: At least 18 foreign militants were killed during 12 infiltration attempts so far this year, and a large quantity of arms, ammunition was also recovered by forces along Line of Control (LoC), an official at the Ministry of Defense Saturday said.
A senior official at the Ministry of Defense (MOD) said that 18 foreign militants were killed in 12 infiltration attempts so far this year and a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered along the LoC.
The official said with the sustenance of Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO), understanding in February 2021, the situation along the LoC witnessed significant improvement compared to the past.
“The situation has been relatively peaceful. As compared to 4,645 ceasefire violations during its peak in 2020, only three minor incidents have been recorded since February 2021 including one incident in 2022,” he said.
“However, Pakistan continued to retain proxy war infrastructure and intent to prosecute the Proxy War in J&K. Functionality of training camps, presence of militants on launch pads and continuing infiltration attempts along the LoC,” the MoD official said.
The official said the neighboring country continues to exploit narco-terror nexus to radicalize and motivate innocent youth to undertake to target vulnerable civilians using pistols and grenades.
The MOD official said this year’s incident-free conduct of Amarnath Yatra was not only a testimony of the robust security architecture in the Valley. It also vindicates the desire for peace amongst locals and their willingness to reap its dividends and the locals of Kashmir deserve due credit for this, he said.
The official said the situation along the International Boundary in J&K largely remained peaceful.
“The Year 2022 witnessed intensive efforts by adversaries towards employment of drones to disturb peace and security along the border areas,” he said.
The MoD official said the Indian Army has instituted a number of measures to counter this threat. There have been persistent attempts from across the IB to construct tunnels close to the border for smuggling of arms, ammunition, and narcotics in addition to infiltration of armed terrorists, he said.
“Various equipment for detection of tunnels is being trial evaluated by the Army in collaboration with indigenous industry,” the official added.
