Baramulla, Dec 31:A team of doctors from Accident & Emergency Department at Associated Hospital Government Medical college Baramulla have successfully performed thrombolysis procedure for acute inferior wall myocardial infarction, colloquially known as heart attack, using a new drug Tenecteplase (rTPA).
Medical Superintendent AHGMC Baramulla Dr Parvez Masoodi said that doctors at its Accident & Emergency Department performed the procedure using rTPA on Friday.
“The procedure was a huge success. The drug showed significant recanalization within just 15 minutes of its use,” he said.
Dr. Parvez claimed that it is for the first time that such a newer drug has been used in GMC Baramulla for thrombolysis.
He said that the drug being very expensive but lifesaving has been kept available for free for such patients at Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla.
“The patient was diagnosed with Acute IWMI with ST1 in leads II, III & aVf & successfully thrombolysed within 15 minutes using Tenecteplase, as efficient as PCI,” he added.
