Srinagar: “I don’t remember when my passion for art began. As far as I know I always loved art,” says Irtiqa Bazaz, a 22-year-old artist from Karan Nagar Srinagar.
Bazaz has turned into a full-time painter with a specialisation in abstract paintings.
She possesses a strong sense of art that has fetched her “1000 WomenOf Asia Awards” at Mumbai. The Lieutenant Governor of J&K has bestowed her with “Kashmir Young Achievers Award” in the last winter.
“Actually, my grandfather was an art lover and I used to spend a lot of time with him during my childhood. That is where I developed interest for art,” she told Rising Kashmir.
Bazaz has taken her passion into academics and is currently pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Kashmir. She has decided to make a career out of it.
Art, she says, has been her passion since schooldays. “I used to participate in Inter–School Painting competition and would often get first position. That gave me motivation and I started working more on my art,” she said.
She gives credit to her parents for supporting her in the field she has chosen for herself. “While following my passion for art, I have decided to make my career out of it.
At a very young age, Bazaz has participated in a number of competitions both nationally and internationally.
From “1000 WomenOf Asia Awards,” to ARTISTRY ‘international art festival” at Jaipur – 2018’ where she was awarded the certificate of honour, Irtiqa Bazaz has participated in around two dozen competitions regionally where in she has come up with flying colours.
She was adjudged as the best artist in the cultural event ‘CHOONA HAI KASHMIR’ in 2018 and topped the Booyn-Eishq art competition.
In 2020 she got a certificate of appreciation for inspiring the women folk of the society.
At the International Online Art Competition and Exhibition 2021, her piece of work was selected under top 100 artists in competition.
She has a message for the youth that “make a will, chase your dreams and believe in what you do…success is yours…”
