Jammu, Mar 25: The 300-bedded high-tech Bone & Joint (B&J) Hospital at Jammu will finally be made functional on May 1.
“The building of the Bone & Joint Hospital will be handed over to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu, in April next month,” the Head of Department (HoD) of Orthopaedics, GMC Jammu, Dr Sanjeev Gupta informed Rising Kashmir, adding, “To start with, only OPD services will be started in the hospital and 2 Operation Theatres (OTs) will be made functional.”
The Bone & Joint Hospital at Jammu has 6 high-tech Operation Theatres (OTs) and once they become fully functional, they will cater to a lot of patient load of the Jammu region which at present is entirely on the GMC, Jammu.
Dr Gupta said that the requisite posts in different categories in the Bone & Joint Hospital are yet to be fulfilled due to which this high-tech hospital would not be made fully functional.
The posts required for the hospital are the faculty members, paramedics, technicians, nursing staff, etc, he said, adding that the requisition for different posts has already been sent to the higher authorities but has so far not been sanctioned.
“Yes, the requisition has been sent to the concerned department in the Civil Secretariat but they are yet to be sanctioned,” he informed.
The HoD further said that around 350 posts in different categories are required for the three hundred 300-bedded Bone & Joint Hospital at Jammu for which the requisition has been forwarded by the GMC to the concerned department.
Hip replacement, joint replacement, knee surgery and replacement, ankle surgery, multiple fracture surgery and required interventions in case of an accident, and surgery related to sports will all be performed in this high-tech hospital once it becomes fully functional, he said.
The work on the 300-bedded Bone & Joint Hospital at Jammu was started in February 2019, while the foundation stone of the hospital was laid on April 22, 2018.
