Jammu, Jan 05: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a sensitization-cum-helmet awareness drive at Narwal Chowk in Jammu to commemorate its 77th foundation day on Friday. The celebration, held annually on January 06, involves BIS offices nationwide, with the Jammu & Kashmir Branch actively engaging consumers, students, and industries this year.
In collaboration with the J&K traffic police, the drive aimed to raise consumer awareness about the BIS Care app, ISI Marked products, and the BIS Hallmark. SSP Traffic City Jammu Police, M. Fiesel Qureshi, inaugurated the drive, accompanied by Addl. SP Traffic Rajpal Singh and his team. Qureshi commended the BIS initiative and encouraged 2-wheeler riders to opt for ISI Marked helmets exclusively.
During the event, the two-wheeler riders and general consumers were informed about the BIS Care App and its functionalities. Students from Siksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jammu actively participated and distributed pamphlets and assisted the BIS team and Traffic police.
Joint Director Pankaj Atri and Assistant Director of BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch office, Niraj Mishra, emphasized that non-ISI helmets, sports helmets, or miners’ helmets should be avoided while driving. They stressed the importance of using ISI-marked helmets as per IS 4151 for enhanced safety in case of accidents. Consumers expressed satisfaction at receiving vital information and downloading the BIS Care App.
Highlighting the issue of fake ISI-marked products being sold for significant profits, the officials urged the public to verify the genuineness of ISI Mark on products before purchase. Consumers were advised to check the BIS website www.bis.gov.in or use the BIS Care App for verification. Instances of misuse of the ISI mark can be reported to the Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office, either by mail at [email protected] or [email protected] or by calling 01923-222690. The confidentiality of the source of such information will be strictly maintained.
