Handwara, Mar 13: In an effort to meet the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) requirements to approve MBBS courses at the new medical college, the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department has designated PHC Langate as a 50-bed associate hospital of the Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara, and linked it to the new medical college.
According to an order issued by H&ME, the administrative control of PHC Langate will be shifted from the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir to GMC Handwara. The hospital will now function as a referral hospital/associated hospital attached to the New Government Medical College Handwara, which is being established in District Kupwara (Handwara) in the UT of J&K under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Establishment of New Medical Colleges attached with Existing District/Referral Hospitals.”
The order also stated that this arrangement will continue until the 500-bed hospital at GMC Handwara is operational.
A high-ranking official in H&ME stated that the health institution will function as an associated hospital of the new GMC and act as a center of excellence in medical education. “The health institution will now be augmented with staff and infrastructure, and will work 24/7 to improve patient care and quality treatment,” he said.
