Srinagar, Nov 14: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has attached the properties of two prominent Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives linked to the 2018 case involving the forcible release of a terrorist through a fatal attack on a police party at a Srinagar hospital.
The NIA, on Tuesday, attached a total of eight properties—five belonging to accused Mohd Shafi Wani and three belonging to Mohd Tikka Khan, residents of Singoo Narbal, Pulwama—under Section 33 (1) of the UA (P) Act, 1967. This action follows recent orders from the NIA Special Court in Jammu.
The case (RC-05/2018/NIA/DLI) centres around the killing of two Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel during a gunfire incident targeting a police party escorting LeT terrorist Naveed Jatt to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for a medical examination on February 6, 2018. Jatt, a Pakistani-origin terrorist, was forcibly released in the attack orchestrated by the two accused and others, acting on orders from their Pakistan-based LeT Commanders. Jatt was later killed in a 2018 encounter with security forces.
The attached properties, including various plots of land and the residential house of Shafi, were identified as assets of the LeT overground workers. Both accused were arrested on February 8, 2018, from their Pulwama residences and found in possession of weapons. They were charge-sheeted on August 3, 2018, and currently face trial under multiple sections of the RPC, Arms Act 1959, and UA (P) Act 1967 before the NIA Special Court in Jammu.
