Srinagar, Apr 11: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has developed and prepared a comprehensive “Syllabus cum Academic Calendar” for the academic session 2023-24, which comprises the foundational level, as well as classes 1 to  8 in Jammu and Kashmir’s education system.
The new syllabus maps the learning outcomes with the contents of the required textbooks of the J&K Board of School Education after four months of strenuous work by experts from NCERT and SCERT.
Jammu & Kashmir has been the first Union Territory to create such a comprehensive document, surpassing all other states and union territory in the country.
“The exercise took place under the guidance of Prof Parikhshat Singh Manhas, the Director of SCERT, and Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, the Joint Director of the Central Move Office, a group of academic officers and resource persons from the Assessment Cell of the SCERT.”
The syllabus intends to improve educational quality in Jammu and Kashmir by moving the emphasis away from rote learning and towards competency-based and experience learning. The syllabus is in accordance with the most recent NCERT standards and instruction manuals, as well as the NEP-2020.
The syllabus seeks to provide instructors the flexibility they need to develop relevant and effective classroom activities while keeping the NCERT and NEP-2020 Learning Objectives in mind.
“The Learning Objectives are a collection of expected information, abilities, and values that students should acquire at the conclusion of each class or level,” stated Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, Joint Director, Central Move Office. “These Learning Objectives are intended to guarantee that students have a positive learning experience.”  Joint Director, Central Move Office, Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, said. “These Learning Outcomes are designed to ensure that students have a holistic development and are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.”
For children with special needs (CWSN), the syllabus emphasizes the importance of providing appropriate resources and support. The syllabus provides teachers with guidance on how to use these resources to support the learning needs of CWSN. These resources are designed to ensure that CWSN have equal opportunities to learn and succeed.
The document is available in parts on the website of the SCERT for easy access by teachers, students, and parents.
