Pulwama, Aug 07: A teenage student from a government school from Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has developed a prototype of a multipurpose trekking bag which can prove very helpful for travellers.
Furqan Shafi, a class 10th student at Government High School Mandoora area of Tral, has designed a trekking bag which has many more utilities than a normal backpack.
Talking to Rising Kashmir Furqan said that the bag has been adjusted with two lights, one fixed and other adjustable.
“The trekker doesn’t need to carry a separate source of light with him,” he said, adding that the multipurpose trekking bag has a USB port for charging mobile phones. He added that the bag has been fitted with a solar panel so that it gets charged on sunlight.
Furqan added that the bag has one more utility: it can be converted into a sitting chair and the person carrying it can sit on it and relax at any place of his liking.
He added that the carrying capacity of the bag can be modified to accommodate one’s luggage.
He said that he came up with this idea to ease trekking experience of people who otherwise have to struggle for light, electricity, charging of mobile phones and chairs.
The trekking bag is as simple to carry as the normal trekking bag, he informed.
He added that it was during a brainstorming session under the inspire awards scheme that he came up with this idea.
After the idea was approved and registered, it took him around 9 days to develop the prototype.
Furqan received much appreciation from his teachers and classmates for designing the multipurpose trekking bag.
Feroz Ahmad, science teacher at Government High School Mandoora, told Rising Kashmir that they encourage students to seek solutions to local problems.
“ We seek ideas from students under inspire awards scheme for solving local problems,” he said, adding that their focus is to develop creativity among students.
He added that they are happy to see their students demonstrating their scientific temperament and making them feel proud.
He added that last year one of their students developed a model for barbecuing.
