Srinagar, June 27: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir’s Women at Workplace Central Committee (WWCC) conducted an awareness session on the laws against harassment at the Shalimar campus.
The event aimed at creating awareness among the employees regarding various types of sexual harassment, how to register complaints and the legal framework. Acting Vice Chancellor Prof MAA Siddique, the chief guest at the occasion, while talking about the Islamic perspective of gender rights, underlined the fact that in Islam there is zero tolerance so far as crime against women is concerned. Advocate Masooda spoke on the different laws and regulations of harassment against women in workplaces. In her speech, she stressed on reforms at the family level in order to preserve the role of elderly women in running affairs of social and cultural importance.
In her opening remarks, Chairperson, WAWCC, Prof Shaheen Gul welcomed the guests and faculty members. She highlighted the role of women for a better society and the importance of the committee to contest the atrocities carried out against women. The faculty members actively took part in interactive sessions and asked various questions related to issues of women in the workplace.
Dean Faculty of Horticulture, Prof Neolofar Banday presented an overview of the university’s efforts towards gender equality and thanked the participants.
