Srinagar, June 02: Light to moderate rain lashed plains in Kashmir and hailstorm occurred at several places on Friday. The Meteorological Department has predicted prevailing weather conditions to continue till June 4 in the region.
Director Meteorological Centre, Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting intermittent weather to continue in Kashmir till June 4 and advised farmers to postpone spraying in orchards.
“On Friday, a brief spell of rain lashed plains and hailstorm occurred in south Kashmir parts. Hailstorms were also reported in Anantnag, Pahalgam and other parts of the valley,” he said.
Lotus said during the next 24 hours, the weather will remain cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain, hailstorm over higher reaches of J&K,” he said.
“From June 27 to 28 , the intermittent rain, thunderstorm (snowfall over higher reaches) is expected at most places of J&K. There is no forecast of major snowfall and there will be a drop in day temperatures,” Lotus said.
He advised farmers to suspend irrigation in field crops and chemical spraying of Orchards from June 5 onwards during morning hours. From June 5th onwards, weather will remain mostly dry in the region, Lotus said.
A traffic police spokesman said during the past 24 hours, the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained blocked for several hours due to restoration work at many places along the highway.
On Saturday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, it said.
The LMV’s will be released from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0600 hrs. to 1100 hrs. From Jakheni (Udhampur) 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs and from NAVYUG Tunnel (Qzd. side) 0600 hrs to 1100 hrs.
“TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut off timings. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut off timings,” he said.
On Srinagar-Leh highway, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil. While Mughal Road is still closed due to landslides at Ratta Chamb, he said.
