Srinagar, Aug 08: Interaction meeting of sericulture beneficiaries of tribal area of Kupwara was conducted by SKUAST-K scientists with an aim to boost sericulture activities under the project funded by Tribal Affairs Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir (GoJK).
The meeting was held in sericulture Development Department Kupwara where besides officers of the department, many rearers/stakeholders also participated. At the onset of meeting Prof. Zia Ul Haque Rufaie Chief Scientist welcomed participants and briefed them about the salient features of the project under implementation.
He also thanked Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganaie Hon’able Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir & Prof T.H. Masoodi Director Research SKUAST-Kashmir for providing support for implementing such projects. Gratitude was also expressed to Prof M.F. Baqual Associate Dean of the College of Temperate Sericulture SKUAST-K Mirgund for extending his help and continuous encouragement in organizing these events.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Zia Rufaie explained in detail the merits of taking up sericulture as an avocation for upliftment of rural economy. Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat Principal Investigator of the project also gave detailed insight of the project where under target beneficiaries are expected to be supported. For success of rearing, trainings will be given to beneficiaries and demonstration of latest sericulture technologies will also be made for their income augmentation. At the end Dr. S. A. Wani Assistant professor and Co-Principal Investigator of the project thanked all the stake holders involved in the project.
