Pulwama, June 03 : Appreciation from Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has boosted the morale of a female farming entrepreneur from Ashajipora Anantnag, Gowhar Jabeen, popularly known as Kiwi girl.
Gowhar Jabeen, a final semester student of MSC Agricultural Economics at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and a successful Kiwi farming entrepreneur, was praised by LG of Jammu and Kashmir in a recent episode of Awaam Ki Awaaz programme.
She was introduced by LG, Manoj Sinha, as an example of women empowerment for taking a unique profession at a very young age.
She was hailed by LG for establishing the first Kiwi Nursery in Kashmir.
This 24 year girl from Anantnag set an example by her will power when established farmers were showing reluctance about the new farming activity, LG said these words for Gowhar Jabeen in the programme.
The LG hoped that Gowhar Jabeen’s struggle to become economically independent will inspire many women and contribute in making their lives better.
Talking to Rising Gowhar Jabeen said that she feels very proud to have been mentioned by LG of Jammu and Kashmir in Awaam Ki Awaaz and expressed her gratitude to him for mentioning her in the programme.
She said after the programme she was also called by Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology Kashmir, Dr Nazir Ahmad Ganai, into his office chamber.
“The vice chancellor also encouraged me and shared some farming tips with me,” she said.
Gowhar Jabeen is the eldest daughter of her father who works in the department of floriculture as a gardener. She said that she has been in Kiwi farming for the past three years.
“I have set up a high density nursery unit for the Haward variety of Kiwi,” she said, adding that she chose Kiwi because the fruit has high demand and a good market here owing to its medicinal value.
She added that for running a successful business one should respect the trust which buyers repose on her or him.
“ The species is dimorphic having separate male and female plants,” she said, adding that a buyer should buy a pair of both sexes to ensure pollination for fruit production.
She said that this year she registered good sales and is planning to increase the production.
