National conference on resilient production system commences at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, Mar 17: A two-day national conference on ‘Integrating Sciences & Institutions for Resilient Production System’ commenced Friday at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Shalimar campus.
 
The conference is organised by the SKUAST-K’s School of Agricultural Economics & Business Management with the objective to meditate upon how the tools and output in agricultural sciences could be integrated with institutional & policy support; to deliberate upon the possibilities of re-structuring research and extension system of the J&K UT and to exchange ideas on technology and science led production system.
Resilient Production systems in the agricultural sector demand for having an inclusive approach towards managing the practising and operational aspects. Moreover, it calls for identifying new thematic areas as well.
Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who presided talked in detail about how agriculture in J&K is being envisioned under the Holistic Agriculture Development Project. He laid emphasis towards reorienting the traditional planning and operational perspective. He stressed the participants to have a detail and outcome-driven approach with a high thrust on being practically involved with the different operational activities of agriculture. He gave examples of the creation of Resilient Production systems in view of the changing global scenario of climate change and other challenges of the world.
 
Director ICAR-NIAP, New Delhi, Prof PS Birthal, highlighted the developments being undertaken by the research and academic institutions for linking science with the practical field of agriculture. He stressed ensuring inclusive growth and development in the agriculture and allied sectors for farm income enhancement and sustainability.
Director Research, SKUAST-K, Prof Sarfaraz A Wani briefed the audience about the various academic and research endeavours undertaken by the SKUAST-K. He also detailed methods for accelerating the dissemination of scientific knowledge and developments to the farmers for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Agri-production systems.
General Manager, NABARD, Dr Surinder Singh, expressed NABARD’s willingness to collaborate with SKUAST-Kashmir in financig of Agriculture projects and start-ups in the agriculture sector.
 
Dean Horticulture Prof SA Wani provided an overview of the conference and the various thematic areas. He highlighted the transformations and climate change happening in the agricultural and the mitigation strategies for reducing the risk associated.
 
Head School of Agricultural Economics & Business Management Prof SH Baba, organizing secretary of the conference gave an overview of the conference and proposed the vote of thanks.
