Ganderbal, June 16: The picturesque park constructed by the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) on the banks of River Sindh is gradually losing its charm as the authorities have neglected its renovation, causing disappointment among locals and tourists.
Local told that the SDA had constructed the public park on the banks of River Sindh a few years ago to provide tourists with a serene place to relax. However, due to the lack of attention from the concerned department, the park now suffers from neglect, despite substantial investments made in its construction.
Members of the local tourism sector expressed their concern over the absence of a beautiful park in Sonamarg, unlike popular tourist destinations such as Pahalgam and Gulmarg. They pointed out that those locations attract a constant influx of tourists, while Sonamarg lacks a suitable resting spot for visitors.
A resident of Sonamarg lamented that although the SDA had built multiple parks in the area, there has been no effort to enhance their aesthetics. One particular park located between the river Sindh has been abandoned and fails to draw attention.
Furthermore, the park, which was completed years ago, remains unlit and inaccessible to tourists. In stark contrast, the parks in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, managed by the Tourism Department, are well-maintained and attract visitors with their attractive ambiance. However, Sonamarg has not received the same level of attention and beautification.
Attempts to contact the Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) by Rising Kashmir went unanswered, leaving concerned citizens and tourists seeking answers.
Local residents and tourists alike are now appealing to the government to take immediate action and invest in the beautification of Sonamarg. They believe that with proper attention and resources, Sonamarg has the potential to become a breathtaking tourist destination that rivals its neighboring counterparts.
As visitors flock to the region in search of natural beauty, the renovation of the neglected park in Sonamarg stands as a crucial step towards creating an inviting atmosphere for tourists, boosting the local economy, and preserving the area’s natural wonders.
