Aharbal: A beautiful waterfall in Kulgam is one of the prime locations and a must visit place in Kashmir. Aharbal – the ‘Niagara Falls of Kashmir’ lies at a distance of 28 kilometres from the main town of Kulgam.
Aharbal is surrounded by tall alpines and trees. It is an easily reachable location – via Kulgam and Shopian.
A beautiful sightseeing hut type construction has been made near the waterfall for the convenience of visitors for photography and watching the waterfall.
Chiranbal: Chiranbal encompasses a vast meadow, with enchanting and bubbling rivers flowing through the valley of Chiranbal. Visitors usually prefer to go by foot to witness the beautiful forests and its tall alpine trees.
Special Forest Division, Kulgam has also developed a trekking route for the trekkers who love trekking. The six kilometres trekking distance gives one the first hand account of forests of the valley and wonders of nature in the deep dive of far-off places.
Chiranbal has two distinct and picturesque valleys beneath one another and the milky stream makes it perfect for camping as well.
Kousarnag: The place is known as “Jewel of Alpine Lakes”, and is said to be the second largest high-altitude lake in Kashmir. Kousarnag has an area of 110 hectares.
Kousarnag is situated in the lap of Pir Panjal mountain range.
The lake has no outlet and has blue cold waters with icebergs floating in the lake round the year which provides a more enchanting view.
Keeping in view the high altitude, the visitors are advised to trek to Kousarnag in the months between June to September.
Trekkers and visitors usually erect their camps at Kongwattan and Mahinag when they travel to Kousarnag.
Vasak Nag: A spring that disappears for six months. In the foothills of the Pir Panchal range and in the lap of Waltangu nard, the vasaknag flows for six months and disappears each year. The spring that runs dry for six months miraculously is famous in the Kund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The spring is among very few springs in the valley that do not have fish in it. Its water is perfect for drinking.
The surroundings of Vasaknag are also very beautiful, full of flora and fauna.
Panchanpathri: Panchanpathri is a vast Meadow in Kulgam’s Damhal Hanjipora subdivision area.
The meadow is situated at the foothills of Hoen Heng – a known tall mountain in Kulgam. The Hoen Heng mountain is known for the tragic plane crash that had occurred here in 1966 claiming around 27 lives.
This place is perfectly surrounded by forests on all sides. The meadow also serves the pastoralists during the summers. They make their livelihood from grazing in this meadow.
