Srinagar, July 01: The Health Department Kashmir on Saturday celebrated National Doctors’ Day in all the districts across Kashmir during which the contribution of doctors, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, was widely hailed.
Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather said doctors work like soldiers in hospitals without caring about their own health. He congratulated the doctors and hailed their contribution to the mitigation of Covid-19 and for providing uninterrupted healthcare services to people across the valley.
“During the Covid-19 situation and in all the other situations they worked tirelessly. During the pandemic, even the close relatives of patients were scared of virus transmission but these doctors stood up to the challenge,” he said.
While expressing gratitude to the medical staff for their dedicated services, the director said, “We should salute their dedication, commitment, sincerity and honesty. They have performed well in all the situations in all the hospitals whether district and other peripheral hospitals and people also need to know and appreciate it.”
Be it the floods of 2014 or the Covid-19 pandemic, the doctors have stood out and proved themselves the true warriors and saviours of humanity, Dr Mushtaq said. “It is our warriors who stood up for the patients at a tough time of the worst disease. On this special day, I urge all the doctors to continue to work with the same zeal and dedication in future as well. Allah has given us the privilege to serve humanity and made us special for service of humanity,” he added.
Meanwhile, special functions were organized across all districts in the valley to honour the contribution of doctors in society and appreciate them.
India celebrates its National Doctor’s Day, since 1991 on July 01 every year in honour of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy (01 July 1882 to 01 July 1962) — who was a prominent doctor, educator, freedom fighter, social worker, and politician; besides being a recipient of the highest Indian civilian award (Bharat Ratna).
