Kargil, June 18: The Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association (LSSA) recently organized a Summer Ski Trip at Umba La as part of their annual summer camp, aimed at uncovering the possibilities of skiing during the summer season. Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes, Umba La boasts excellent slopes and maintains a consistent snow cover throughout the year. This unique destination presents an attractive alternative for Indian tourists seeking skiing adventures during the summer months, reducing the need to visit western countries. The team of experts leading this initiative includes Syed Shamshudin, Sadiq Ali, and Talib Hussain, all renowned ski professionals.
With previous successful summer ski camps held across different locations in Ladakh, the LSSA team is now determined to identify new slopes that offer extended opportunities for summer skiing. Sadiq Ali, a seasoned skiing coach and expert, affirmed that Umba La stands out as a destination where abundant snow can be found even until the end of June-July, making it the perfect time for adventure lovers from all parts of India to indulge in skiing even during the summer season. This endeavor contributes to the promotion of domestic tourism, aligning with the “Dekho Apna Desh” campaign championed by the Prime Minister.
Syed Shamshuddin, a member of the LSSA team, emphasized the immense potential of Ladakh as an adventure sports hub. He believes that Kargil district, in particular, can be developed into a premier adventure destination, offering a wide range of activities such as skiing, bouldering, rafting, mountaineering, and rock climbing. Shamshuddin urged the Ladakh Tourism Department to explore these opportunities further, maximizing the region’s appeal to adventure enthusiasts.
As the Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association continues its quest to uncover new summer skiing locations, their efforts promise to unlock the full potential of Ladakh as a year-round adventure sports haven.
