Srinagar, Feb 21: Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Qayyum Husain flagged off the men’s contingent participating in the north zone inter-university cricket tournament organised by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at Kurukshetra University.
Among others, In-charge Registrar, Dr. Khurshid A. Mir; Sports Secretary, Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Parray and PTIs of constituent college were present on the occasion.
The team comprises of 17 players accompanied by manager, coach and support staff. The players were selected on the basis of the open trials held at S. P. College ground last week. In the AIU tournament, 87 teams have been divided into four pools and shall play on knockout basis.
Conveying his best wishes to the squad, Prof. Qayyum said the Cluster University Srinagar is striving hard to provide opportunities to students from constituent and affiliated colleges so that they can hone their sports skills.
The Vice Chancellor said participation in national-level sports tournaments provides the much needed exposure to students. Meanwhile, he said the university will be upgrading sports infrastructure in the constituent colleges and encourage the students to participate in indoor and outdoor sports activities.
In-charge Registrar, Dr. Khurshid said the participation in such sports events instills discipline and spirit of team-work among students.
Sports Secretary, Dr. Khursheed Parray said the university is looking forward for successful conduct of activities under its sports calendar for the current academic session.
