Commissioner SMC conducts weekly meeting to review various issues

A weekly review meeting was today convened by Comissioner SMC Srinagar and CEO Smart City, Mr Athar Amir Khan. During the review issues related to Enforcement, Sanitation and Revenue of the corporation were discussed thread bare.

Mr. Athar took a detailed review of waste management, curbing polythene use, addressing grievance on sanitation and checking the status of construction sites.

It was informed in the meeting that various illegal constructions were demolished past week and several encroachments were removed. Public grievance regarding sanitation were also reviewed and issues for improvisation of sanitation and door to door waste collection was also reviewed and discussed at length. Discussing the status of user charges,Ward Officers were directed to improve the overall collection of waste.

While reiterating the policy of zero tolerance to any type of encroachment of pavements or paths, the Commissioner directed that the shopkeepers to ensure there is no encroachment of spaces in front of shops and also emphasized to lay complete curb on the use of polythene and asked to impose heavy fine on violators using polythene. It was also decided to carry Anti-polythene and Anti-Encroachment drives rigorously with a constant check on vendors and shopkeepers.

While directing the concerned officials to remove overhead cables from the city, He emphasized the removal of same particularly in areas like, Airport road,Hyderpora, Lalchowk, Nishat, Shalimar, Hazratbal, Lalbazar and Old city as soon as possible as these cables deface the city aesthetics.

Mr. Athar also directed the Chief Sanitation Officer to start night sweeping in city from Airport road via Lal Chowk,Dalgate,Nishat to Hazratbal immediately.

The Commissioner also asked the concerned officials to do face-lifting of walls from Airport road to Harwan and facelifting of buildings and installation of uniform signage boards by shopkeepers.
