Ganderbal, Mar 20:- After a temporary closure spanning 30 days, the vital 434-kilometer Srinagar-Ladakh highway has been restored for one-way traffic from Minamarg side on TrailBais, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday.
Following heavy snowfall in February, authorities had taken precautionary measures, shutting down the highway due to adverse conditions in key areas such as Drass, Zojila Pass, ChiniNallah, Captain Morh, and Sonamarg.
Last week, Project Vijayak and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) initiated snow removal operations on an emergency basis to clear the route for traffic movement.
Ravinder Paul Singh, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, informed Rising Kashmir that the UT Ladakh Administration has greenlit the passage of approximately 36 Light Motor Vehicles from the Minamarg side.
Singh, accompanied by DYSP Traffic Rural Ganderbal, personally inspected the conditions at Zojila Pass to assess road status.
Looking ahead, Singh indicated that a traffic advisory and cut-off times will be issued, with only Tata Mobiles transporting essential commodities permitted until road conditions improve. He emphasized the necessity of using anti-skid chains, noting that vehicles lacking them will be denied passage.
Moreover, overloaded and over-height vehicles are strictly prohibited on the route to LehLadakh, ensuring safer transit for all travelers.
