Kulgam, Feb 08: As society continues to struggle with the growing issue of polythene waste and environmental degradation, the young entrepreneur from Kulgam has decided to address the issue by setting up an eco-friendly bag manufacturing unit.
An engineering graduate of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar aspires to contribute to society besides generating employment.
Naveed Abdullah, a 26-year-old youth from Redwani, Kulgam has set up a unit with the goal of reducing the impact of environmental pollution.
After finishing his degree, Naveed started making plans to establish a unit that will give alternatives to polythene and help reduce the pollution.
Naveed told Rising Kashmir that he chose the name of his business unit as NISHAAN, with a pattern for “Go Green”.
Nishaan – an Urdu word that means target which represents a goal. He said that his target and goal is to provide a long lasting solution to polythene menace by providing eco-friendly alternatives to plastic carry bags.
“In an effort to fulfill my aspirations, I opened a business where paper bags are manufactured and distributed all over Kashmir,” he said.
He said that Nishaan uses high-quality, recycled paper to produce the bags.
“The paper is sourced from mills, ensuring that the unit is not only providing an eco-friendly solution but also supporting the local economy,” he added.
Despite Naveed’s efforts to promote the use of eco-friendly paper bags and to create awareness about the importance of reducing plastic pollution, the public response to his products is not as positive as he had expected.
“I have got two experts who work in my unit and as winter is on, the demand for paper bags has reduced drastically,” he said.
Naveed said that the unit’s efforts to provide an eco-friendly alternative to plastic bags and promote the use of paper bags have made a significant contribution to reducing plastic pollution in the region.
“By choosing paper bags, you not only reduce your environmental footprint but also support the local economy and create jobs in the Valley. It’s a win-win situation for all,” he added.
