Takes stock of development in fisheries sector

Ganderbal, Apr 04:  Director Fisheries Farooq Ahmed Dar along with Joint Director Fisheries A.M. Tak visited Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district on Tuesday to take stock of the developments in Fisheries Sector.
Director Fisheries visited K2 Aquaculture at Akhal, Kangan, and took stock of the infrastructure developed by the private entrepreneur company for raising of rainbow trout through Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS). 
Director Fisheries was informed by the management that the project is spread over an area of 70 kanals and has been constructed with a capital investment of 50 Crore. 
For working capital, the Department of Fisheries, Govt. of J&K assisted the unit through sanction of Rs. 47.00 Crore through Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), out of which the agency will get an interest subvention of 3% on 37.00 Crores.
He highlighted the importance of private sector in boosting the economy of the state and asked the management to start the operation at an earliest. 
He was informed that the operation of the unit with a capacity of 825 MT will be started by the end of September 2023 in the first phase, which will be augmented to 2500 MT by 2027. 100 MT of rainbow trout will be raised through buy back system, wherein the private farmers will be roped in to raise 100 MT of rainbow trout which will be bought back by the agency. 
Director Fisheries took tour of the various establishments of the K2 Aquaculture and ensured management for best possible support from the Department of Fisheries. 
Director Fisheries later visited Mamar and Margund fish farm and took stock of the breeding season, which culminated a couple of months before.
