Ganderbal, May 26: Stray dogs on Friday attacked and injured seven persons in the Kullan area of Gund in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Locals said a group of stray dogs attacked and injured at least seven persons including some women.
The injured have been identified as Amina Begum (65), Zahoor Ahmad (40), Mugli (70), Maryam (60), Abdul Aziz (65), Ghulam Ali (70), Akhtar, all residents of Kullan Gund. Among these, Abdul Aziz Najar, son of Abdul Rehman; Amina Bano, wife of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, and Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, have been referred to Sub-District Hospital Kangan for further treatment.
The incident has caused terror among the locals.
A health officer from the PHC Kullan said, “We received 7 dog bite cases today. After giving treatment to the patients along with anti-rabies vaccine and anti-rabies serum, three persons, including a woman, were referred to SDH Kangan for further treatment.”
According to locals, there are thousands of dogs in Ganderbal town, Beehama, Duderhama, Gund, Kullan, Gagangir, Ganiwan, Rayil, Sumbal, Margund and Kangan, Lar, Chount Waliwar, and other areas. They said authorities have no way to control them.
The menace of stray dogs in the entire Ganderbal district has become a cause of concern not only for the residents but also for the authorities who have so far failed to put a check on the growing canine population.
