Sopore, Feb 23: As the sun sets in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the Sopore town plunges into darkness as the authorities have failed to fix the street lights, creating immense problems for the local population.
Despite the claim that the town is being developed on modern lines, it still lacks the basic things like street lights.
There are several places, such as the old town and colonies, where there are no lights or are defunct, people claim.
Talking to the Rising Kashmir, locals said that they are going through terrible sufferings because there are no lights, and the authorities are just watching as an mute spectators.
Faizan Shameem, a local resident, claimed that the majority of the street lights went out shortly after they were installed. Sadly, since then, there has been no restoration for the street lights. “Walking on the roads without proper lighting is not possible for the residents, as roads are full of potholes and it’s hard to walk on the water-filled potholes without street lights”, he said.
We have been continuously asking the Council as well as local administration to fix these streetlights, but nothing has been done so far, the locals said.
Nonetheless, the locals have appealed to the LG administration to install street lights wherever needed, as soon as possible.
Speaking to the Rising Kashmir, Executive Officer, MC Sopore, Tariq Reshi who is holding additional charges as ADC Sopore said that they are working on it and the issues would be resolved soon.
