Udhampur, May 15: BJP spokesperson Ranbir Singh Pathania on Monday called for immediate compensation for the “unforeseen losses” of vegetable as well as fruit growers of the district Udhampur, especially those belonging to Chenani, Dudu Basantgarh and Panchari areas. He called for assessing the said crop losses and compensating the affected growers, saying these losses have broken the back of growers.
“A crisis-like situation has been prevailing in areas of Udhampur in scores of villages where incessant rains have caused whopping losses to ripe vegetables and fruits. Given the situation in view of unprecedented hailstorms and rainfall in the areas of Chenani, Dudu, Basantgarh, Latti, Panchari, Moungri and other parts of district Udhampur and the absence of government touch over here, the situation is grave,” he said while addressing the grievance redressal proceedings at the BJP district headquarters at Battal Balian, Udhampur.
“Horticulturists have also suffered major losses. Their fruit crops, apple, peach, amla, citrus, etc have totally been spoiled with the local farmers as well as horticulturists being on the brink of severe financial crisis,” Pathania added.
While interacting with prominent vegetable growers of Chenani, he said that it can be developed as a vegetable hub and called for promoting high-density walnut, apple varieties in these areas.
While interacting with PRIs of Udhampur and surrounding areas, he said, “Due to untimely and uncalled for withdrawal of 14th FC and back to village grants, there is a sense of uncertainty amongst the PRIs as well as the people of district Udhampur.”
