Srinagar, May 15: Jammu and Kashmir State women’s wing president Shameema Firdous on Monday said that NC has more than a century-old legacy of standing for the rights and the upliftment of all sections of society, particularly women folk.
She said this while addressing women workers at a one-day convention held in the Ganderbal district. Provincial Women’s wing president Er Sabiya Qadri, Provincial Secretary Women’s Wing Aisha Jameel, District Women’s wing President Mubeena and District VP Women’s wing Rehana addressed the workers on the occasion, a party statement issued here said, adding that the District President Ganderbal Haji Ghulam Nabi Rather was also present on the occasion.
The women’s wing of the party was founded to promote the political and social empowerment of women in J&K, Shameema said, adding, “NC is the trailblazer in women’s democratic and human rights. We have more than a century-old legacy of standing for the rights and the upliftment of all sections of society, particularly women.”
‘Gender equality is at the very heart of human rights and the cornerstone of our party values and ideology. Today our sisters are shining in every field and making a mark in every profession. While we have come a long way in the last seventy years, there are still many areas in our society in which women and girls experience unequal treatment. Given our core commitment towards the issue, we are making efforts to bring more women into our fold. The response from the educated women has been very tremendous. We believe that having more educated and confident women in politics will attune party policies to the challenges and difficulties faced by women,” she said.
Addressing the functionaries, Er Sabiya Qadri said, “We have been the forerunners in promoting issues relating to development and gender equality. It is only NC that boasts a vision that believes in utilizing women’s agencies in community building and peace-making.”
