Srinagar, May 27: The School Education Department on Saturday issued an explanation to a lady teacher and withheld her salary over the allegations of using an unknown app for fake attendance.
Shafiq Ahmad, Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Rajwar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district issued an order asking the teacher, Shabena Nazir, to disclose the app she had been using for fake attendance.
The order stated that the teacher had been marking her attendance on the JK Attendance SED App from a different location than her assigned place of posting. Despite marking attendance using an unknown app on that day, she was found absent. The act was taken seriously as it indicated proxy attendance, which goes against the norms and guidelines of the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.
The ZEO also instructed the head of the institution to explain their position and why they didn’t inform the department about the issue. The erring teacher has been given a deadline of May 29 to provide an explanation along with details of the software she had been using for fake attendance. Failure to comply would result in disciplinary action as per the rules.
Additionally, the salary of the teacher, Shabena Nazir, and the Head of Institution (HOI) of UPS Rehanzab, Mohammad Amin Sheikh, has been withheld until further orders, the Zonal Education Officer said. He also directed the JK Attendance SED App (Zone Rajwar) to provide the attendance data for the month of May 2023, including check-in and check-out times with location coordinates, for the above-mentioned Teacher Grade-II.
The ZEO said that an inquiry team has been formed and instructed to submit a report within two days.
