Srinagar, Apr07: The Jammu and Kashmir health department has sent a requisition to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India for 10,000 precautionary covid 19 vaccination doses, especially for people with comorbidities.
State Immunization Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, informed that they have sent the requisition for the precautionary dose of Corbevax which would administer to people above 18 years of age.
Corbevax, India’s first indigenously developed RBD protein subunit vaccine, is currently being used to inoculate adults in the age group of 18 to 80 years under the immunization program.
“Vaccine is a preventive aspect. The precautionary dose is given to those people who have already received the first and second dose of the Covid-19 vaccination,” he said.
“We have requested the Government of India that the process is going and the requisition is same for the entire country,” the State Immunization Officer said.
The Covid- 19 precautionary doses will be first administered to the vulnerable and comorbid people across Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said after the first vaccination drive of administering precautionary doses to vulnerable groups, the government would continue further drives and administer precautionary doses to the adults, teenagers and children.
Jammu and Kashmir government has administered 2,47,82,105 vaccine doses till April 06, 2023. Out of that 1,13,72,573 are partially vaccinated and 1,17,68,105 are fully vaccinated. Around 16,41,429 people have received booster doses till now.
Two weeks ago, India witnessed a rise in fresh Covid-9 cases, the Union Health Ministry advised all the states and Union Territories to effectively implement a five-fold strategy of test, track, treat, follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour and vaccinate to check the spread.
The ministry has also asked the states to ensure the availability of required drugs and logistics for Influenza and Covid -19 across health facilities. Apart from this, states have been asked to ensure the availability of sufficient designated beds and health workers.
