Samba, Jan 23: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu, and former minister, S Manjit Singh has demanded an end to the “discrimination” against the Schedule Castes in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was chairing a meeting of the Schedule Caste community in Samba. The meeting was also attended by State General Secretary, SC Wing, Capt. Joginder, District President SC Wing, Samba, Ex-Sarpanch, Sham Lal Bhagat, and others, the party said in a statement.
During the meeting, a detailed deliberation was held regarding the Schedule Caste community, the development of their localities, job opportunities, discrimination in society and their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh expressed shock over the ground situation in Samba where the SC community has allegedly been discriminated against and ignored regarding their jobs and development. He said the residential colonies of the SC community are witness to the underdevelopment and discriminatory approach of the authorities.
“The selective approach towards their colonies needs the highest level of condemnation. The authorities work as per the wishes of political parties and ignore those who have no political affiliation. The victim of this biased approach is the Schedule Caste community,” he said while citing several examples where the colonies were ignored regarding proper road connectivity, underdeveloped lanes and drains.
Manjit, however, assured the SC community that the Apni Party would not allow any kind of discrimination against them if it formed the next government in Jammu and Kashmir.
He highlighted the welfare schemes of the party that would help the neglected class of society for social, economic, educational, and political upliftment. “We believe in the equal empowerment of all sections of society,” he added.
Meanwhile, Manjit also issued certain directions to the party cadre to work for the welfare of the SC and other marginalized sections of society.
