Apharwat Peak is one of the most picturesque tourist spots in Gulmarg which presents a sight imbued with sheer beauty and magnificence. At a height of 4,200 m above the sea level, the place is remotely positioned merely a few kilometers from the Line of Control. It is also a recipient of heavy precipitation and remains covered in thick snowy blankets for most of the year.
Surrounded by pristine meadows and snow bathed mountains, the most popular feature of Apharwat is that this is the site where most of Gulmarg’s adventure sports activities take place. The famous Ningle Nallah also originates from this popular place in Gulmarg and is a delight to see.
Tourists head to Mt. Apharwat by the hordes to enjoy exhilarating skiing expeditions and other winter sports. Located approximately 13 km away from Gulmarg, the most convenient and preferred way to reach here is by the Gondola cable car ride, which in itself is a special attraction here in Gulmarg. It ferries visitors from Gulmarg to Kongdoor and from Kongdori to Apharwat.
Getting to the peak is also dependent on the weather conditions and if the weather is extremely harsh, you may have to give the plan a miss for the day. The best time to visit is the winter months of December and January.
