Jammu, Sept 09: Government has set a deadline for installation of smart meters in every household of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Electrical Officer, Power Development Department Sanjay Sharma said that the government has set 2025-26 as the deadline to ensure that each household in J&K gets power supply through the smart meters.
The tenders for installation of fourteen lakh Smart Meters in the left out villages have been allotted.
“The tenders for installing smart meters have been allotted by following a transparent process and the laid down guidelines,” Sharma informed Rising Kashmir, while adding, “the work for installation of 14 lakh more smart meters will begin very soon”.
These 14 lakh smart meters will be installed in the third phase. In the first phase, a total of 1.25 lakh Smart Meters were installed in J&K UT. In the second phase, a total of 5.5 lakh Smart Meters are being installed covering Jammu and Srinagar cities and its outskirts.
The work for installing 5.5 lakh Smart Meters is still going on and will be completed within a month or two.
Alongside this, the major work for installing 14 lakh Smart Meters covering each and every household in the villages of J&K UT will begin very soon.
