Srinagar, Jan 9: The newly appointed Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Owais Ahmad wasted no time in addressing key municipal issues, holding his first meeting with senior officers to set the tone for his tenure.
He stressed the importance of transparent and time-bound duties, urging officials to provide hassle-free services to citizens.
Specifically addressing building permissions, the Commissioner directed the concerned wing to facilitate smooth processing and issuance of permissions within stipulated time frames. This, he highlighted, ensures that citizens applying for building permissions comply with the law.
In the realm of sanitation, Commissioner urged officials to enhance and upgrade overall cleanliness in Srinagar. He also instructed the team to address street light repairs promptly.
To combat encroachment and unauthorized constructions, the Commissioner directed the concerned wing to remain vigilant and act decisively within the bounds of the law.
During the introductory meeting, Commissioner Ahmed stressed the need for strategic discussions to enhance the city’s development and improve the quality of life for its residents.
In a meeting attended by all senior officers, Commissioner Owais Ahmed familiarized himself with vital functions of the SMC, including Urban Planning, Enforcement, Building Permissions, Anti-Encroachment, Civil, Mechanical, Drainage works, Public Health, Sanitation, Solid Waste Management, Veterinary functions, Finance, Purchase and Procurement, Estates, and Birth and Death Registration.
Commissioner Owais Ahmed’s proactive approach on his first day signals a commitment to efficient governance and a focus on critical aspects such as sanitation and streamlined building permissions, ensuring a positive impact on the city’s development and residents’ well-being.
