Jammu, Jan 09: Samanbal, a cultural organisation, on Tuesday organised a seminar here at Writer’s Club in Abhinav Theatre to promote the Kashmiri language as a mother tongue.
On this occasion, Apni Party General Secretary, Vijay Bakaya presided over the seminar. The subject was regarding steps being taken and required to be taken to popularize the Kashmiri language as a mother tongue.
In his presidential address, Bakaya said the child learns the language spoken to him in the home and that becomes his mother tongue. “Unfortunately, more and more children hear Hindustani being spoken by their parents and siblings while they are growing up and therefore Hindustani is gradually becoming the mother tongue,” he said.
He said it is an irony that Kashmiri is becoming the second language for Kashmiri children.”
He commended Samanbal for making efforts to propagate Kashmiri literature and to make videos etc to familiarize the children with spoken Kashmiri. “The language can be learnt only in the environment of the home and the parents should be encouraged to talk in Kashmiri,” he stressed.
