Srinagar, Oct 23: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday welcomed Rukaiya Gulzar, Sitting SMC corporator from Aloochi Bagh into its fold.
The joining was organized by In-Charge Constituency & Provincial VP Ahsan Pardesi. Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, District President Peer Afaq Ahmad, Provincial President Women’s Wing Er Sabiya Qadri, and others welcomed her into the party fold.
The functionaries passed on good wishes to the new entrant hoping that the party would benefit from her wide-ranging experience in public life and social service. On the occasion, Rukaiya ji expressed her full faith in the party’s leadership, and vision and vowed to strengthen the party on the ground.
Addressing the gathering, Sagar said the situation on the ground negates the tall claims made by the incumbent administration with regard to development. “Work on bridges, roads, medical centres, water supply schemes, drainage systems and other government constructions is either slow or has come to a complete standstill. The exorbitant hike in electricity tariff, curtailment of ration and shortage of other utility services is tormenting people as never before. Road maintenance in Srinagar has been reduced to mere patchwork. Various road stretches in Srinagar including Khayam road are yet to receive macadam. Macadam laying was confined to a few roads in the name of Smart City and G20, while the rest of the roads and connecting roads continue to remain in miserable condition,” he said.
The NC leader urged the administration to start the road construction work immediately so that the macadam work on all the roads can be completed before the end of the season. He said that the reduction in ration quota has also caused great hardship to the people.
On the occasion, Ahsan Pardesi said amid the so-called multiple Smart City projects in the city centre, authorities are turning a blind eye towards the dilapidated city roads which are taking a toll on city dwellers. He said that nothing is being done on the ground as the dilapidated roads are becoming a death trap for commuters and pedestrians.
Meanwhile, the NC President, Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Dr Farooq Abdullah, and Vice President Omar Abdullah greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Maha Navami and Dussehra.
In their message, they said both the festivities celebrate the triumph of truth over falsehood. Such festivals, they further stated, help in the furtherance of a country’s spiritual and cultural inheritance.
