Srinagar, Feb 21: Gulmarg, renowned for its pristine ski slopes, hosted the inauguration of the snow sports event of the 4th Khelo India Games, graced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports and Home Affairs, Nisith Pramanik.
Lt Governor Sinha extended his best wishes to the athletes from across the nation participating in various winter sports disciplines, emphasizing the significance of the occasion for over 600 athletes who have dedicated themselves to this spectacular event. He invited participants and enthusiasts to savor the warm hospitality of Jammu and Kashmir, while relishing the thrill of Alpine Ski, Nordic Ski, and snow Mountaineering competitions, along with the breathtaking sights and cuisine of the region.
Underlining the government’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant sports culture, Lieutenant Governor Sinha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in advancing sports in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the significant boost given to the sports sector through state-of-the-art infrastructure and associated facilities.
“Our talented sportspersons have demonstrated their prowess in both national and international arenas, serving as inspirations for budding athletes to bring glory to the Union Territory and the nation,” remarked Sinha.
Expressing gratitude, Lieutenant Governor Sinha extended his thanks to the Government of India, the Union Sports Ministry, and the Sports Authority of India for their steadfast support and cooperation. He also acknowledged the development of national and international level sports infrastructure in J&K under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP).
Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, conveyed his best wishes through a video message, urging participating athletes to give their all in the tournament.
Union Minister Nisith Pramanik commended the UT Administration led by Lieutenant Governor Sinha for its endeavors in fostering sports infrastructure at the grassroots level, setting a benchmark for other states. The mega event commenced today and is scheduled to conclude on February 26.
