Srinagar, Oct 24: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial Committee on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and providing access to humanitarian aid and relief material to Gaza.
While presiding over a Provincial Committee meeting at party headquarters here, the party’s Vice President Omar Abdullah called out the “ambivalent” policy of European countries with regard to the plight of people in Gaza.
“There should be no silence on the killing of innocent people. We reserve no words in condemning the killing of unarmed civilians on both sides in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. In the same vein, we strongly condemn the atrocities Israel is committing on the innocent people in Gaza and the West Bank. Since the first day, we have been opposing what is happening there. Innocent people are being killed in Gaza bombings,” he said, according to a statement issued by NC.
Omar further said, “Unfortunately the Western world has proved that there are different laws for Russia and Israel. When Russia stopped water and essential commodities during the Ukraine war, it was termed a war crime, so why is it not applicable when Israel is doing the same thing to Palestinians? If what Russia did to Ukraine was a war crime; then what Israel is doing to Gaza should also be condemned as a war crime. We demand that all crimes be weighed in equal scales. There shouldn’t be any differentiation.”
The meeting was marked by threadbare discussions on the prevailing political situation in Kashmir, the statement said, adding that issues of public importance like erratic electricity, ration curtailment, development deficit, administrative inertia, unemployment, and skyrocketing inflation also marked up in the meeting.
The party functionaries also congratulated the party leadership on the party’s splendid victory in the recently held LAHDC, Kargil elections.
