Kulgam, July 30: In a significant step towards empowering farmers with modern horticultural practices, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan Wednesday flagged-off a group of 54 progressive orchardists from Mini-Secretariat Kulgam to SKUAST-K (Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology – Kashmir) as part of a Capacity Building Programme under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).A statement issued here said that the tour has been organised by the Chief Horticulture Officer, Kulgam. Before flagging-off the group, DC interacted with the orchardists and urged them to take full advantage of the exposure visit by actively engaging with experts and adopting innovative horticultural practices. He emphasised that such initiatives are vital for enhancing productivity, improving quality, and ensuring sustainable income for farming communities. It was informed during the tour that the orchardists will engage in interactive sessions with scientists at SKUAST-K, where they will learn about technological interventions and innovations in horticulture. They will also witness practical demonstrations on the establishment and management of orchards, with a special focus on High-Density Plantation techniques. This initiative aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills required for sustainable and high-yield horticultural practices, ultimately enhancing productivity and income generation in the sector. Present on the occasion were ACR, Riyaz Ahmad Shah, Chief Horticulture Officer, Mohammad Ramzan, Chief Agriculture Officer, Farooq Ahmad and other officers.
