Ganderbal, July 25: Reinforcing its dedication to grassroots sports development and fostering a dynamic sporting culture, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Ganderbal Friday organised a series of vibrant sports events across the district attracting enthusiastic participation from students across schools and zones.A statement issued here said that at the Government Physical College Gadoora, the Inter-Zone District Level Kho-Kho Tournament (Girls U-19) saw spirited competition among teams representing all four educational zones. After an exciting series of matches, Zone Kangan clinched the title, edging out Zone Tullamulla in a nail-biting final. Trophies were awarded to both the winners and runners-up by senior officials, while a selection committee shortlisted standout players for the upcoming Provincial Level Championship, further motivating participants to pursue excellence in sports.Simultaneously, the Indoor Sports Complex Sehpora came alive with intense action during the Inter-School District Level Taekwondo Championship (All Age Groups). Boys and girls from various institutions competed across different weight categories, showcasing impressive technique, stamina, and sportsmanship. The championship not only served as a competitive platform for budding martial artists but also underscored the value of discipline, focus, and physical fitness in shaping holistic student development. Adding momentum to the day’s activities, the DYSS also launched a two-day Football Coaching Camp for Girls (All Age Groups) at the Government Physical College Gadoora. The camp aims to provide professional training to young female footballers and inspire more participation of girls in mainstream sports. The multi-sport day reflects the department’s consistent efforts to promote inclusivity, identify talent at the grassroots level and empower youth through structured sporting initiatives.
