Kargil/Ganderbal, July 6: Ashura, marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was observed with deep religious devotion and solemnity across Kargil in Ladakh and various parts of Kashmir Division including Dab Ganderbal, Balti Kullan, and Nilgrath. In Kargil, massive mourning processions were organized under the aegis of Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust. Thousands of mourners, dressed in black, thronged the streets, paying homage to the martyrs of Karbala through Noha Khwani (recitation of elegies) and Seena Zani (chest-beating), expressing their heartfelt sorrow and unwavering reverence. The processions culminated at Hussaini Park and Inqilab Manzil, where prominent scholars delivered sermons emphasizing the timeless values of truth, justice, sacrifice, and resistance against oppression, the principles exemplified by Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions. The District Administration and District Police ensured smooth conduct of the events with well-coordinated security and logistical arrangements. Several medical camps and Sabeels (refreshment stalls) were also set up along the procession routes to serve the mourners.Meanwhile, in Dab (Ganderbal), Balti Kullan, and Nilgrath, the day was marked by similar passion and religious intensity. Local communities organized Youm-e-Ashura processions, chanting slogans of sacrifice and steadfastness, remembering the thirst and suffering of Karbala. Emotional scenes unfolded as participants recited elegies and beat their chests in collective mourning. The commemorations concluded with Majlis-e-Aza (mourning gatherings) held at various mosques and Imambargahs, where speakers called upon the faithful to embody the teachings of Karbala in their daily lives to stand firm for justice, dignity, and moral courage.
