Srinagar, Jun 17: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday called for a united voice against the ongoing war in Gaza and the threats of military action against Iran, urging the people of India and the world to stand with the people of Palestine and Iran.
Speaking during a protest organised by CPI (M), Tarigami said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict had become a continuous chain of violence against Palestinians, and the growing tensions with Iran were adding more danger to the region.
“This is a series of violence against the Palestinian people,” he said. “World peace is in danger, but unfortunately, Europe and America are not only silent, they are openly supporting this war.”
The CMPI(M) leader said the situation could escalate and destabilise the entire region. “This war against Iran will create a lot of instability in this region,” he said. “The flames of war will rise in the whole region.”
“The CPI (M) appeals to people across the country and the world to raise their voice,” he said. “We demand an end to this war and barbarism.”
Tarigami said the party’s stand was clear and consistent. “The CPI (M) stands with the people of Palestine and Iran. The people of Kashmir, the CPI (M), and the whole party across the country say that we are with the Iranian people. We are with the Palestinian people,” he said.
He appealed to the Government of India to maintain its historic position on such matters. “There is an appeal to the central government that they keep their traditions intact,” he said. “Those traditions have been against imperialism, they have been in favour of Palestine, and they have supported peace.”
He urged the government not to remain silent. “We should not remain silent,” he said. “If the flames of war are rising today, who knows what will happen next?”
